The star has donated the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots music venues.

He was awarded the cheque on October 16 as his latest record his work was declared the top album of the last 12 months.

Fender has chosen to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues had in his initial steps.

"I wouldn't be doing this success if it wasn't for all the gigs I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these locations have ceased operations – about 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Recently, well-known musicians including Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by applying a small levy to their admission fees, which supports smaller concert halls.

He also participated, collecting over £100k on his recent tour to assist thirty-eight grassroots venues across Britain.

The donation helped spaces that were facing possible closure due to issues stemming from water damage, blazes and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations obtained funding support in upgrading facilities and gear that directly benefitted performers and fans.

"The notion that money from concerts in major spaces helps the independent spots, where it all starts for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.

Fender is far from the only musician to donate his Mercury Prize winnings to charitable organizations.

When Pulp received the award in the year 1996 for their album their work, lead singer Cocker stated that the band would give their prize money to the non-profit the charity.

In 2002, artist Ms Dynamite divided her award between several good causes, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I gave a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to outlets.

In recent years, they gave their funds to the community center that supported their act, alongside other local music groups.

And winners that year they donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was found to have the illness.

"The victory was sufficient," stated vocalist Small. "The prize was the extra but we didn't require the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted another person's life."

Recently, the trust revealed it had saved two grassroots venues in that region, by bringing them into public stewardship.

One venue in that area and The Croft in Bristol were bought under the public acquisition initiative, which is backed by a national body and music fans who purchase "shares" in the properties.
